| Charlie Trotter takes 2nd gamble on Vegas
Chicago's own Charlie Trotter is throwing his toque into Las Vegas' fine-dining ring with Restaurant Charlie, slated to open at the Palazzo next month. The 85-seat main dining room will serve seafood-centric dishes a la carte, while the intimate Bar Charlie will dish up sushi, sashimi and other surprises at a long counter seating 18. "We're not trying to do what we do in Chicago -- the 3.5-hour, 12-course experience," Trotter said at the Palazzo's grand opening over the weekend. While seafood is the focus of the new restaurant, Trotter has a treat for high-rolling carnivores. He plans to serve a richly marbled cut of Wagyu beef from an exclusive Japanese purveyor. The 4- to 5-ounce steak will cost about $250. "We'll probably just give people a spoon to eat it," Trotter said.

Linebacker Byron Hout on Wednesday plans to do something no North Idaho football star has done in more than a decade. Sign a letter of intent to play for the Boise State Broncos. Hout, named the Idaho Statesman's 5A All-Idaho Player of the Year as a junior in 2006 and the Gatorade Player of the Year for Idaho as a senior in 2007, terrorized offensive linemen, quarterbacks and ball carriers the past three seasons at Lake City High in Coeur d'Alene. The Colorado transplant - he moved to Idaho six years ago - chose the Broncos in part because he had become a fan of the up-and-coming program. Washington and Idaho also offered him scholarships, he said/Chad Cripe, Idaho Statesman. More here. .
Astronaut to throw boomerang in space
Astronaut Takao Doi, 53, is set to travel on a US shuttle in March to the International Space Station, where he will be in charge of construction of a Japanese scientific testing room. It is believed gravity is needed for a boomerang to fly back to the throwing spot, but no one has tried in zero gravity. "Mr Doi said he will personally carry a paper boomerang for the upcoming mission and we presume he will try it when he has spare time,'' said an official of the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency. Doi reportedly decided on boomerang tests after he received a request from Yasuhiro Togai, a world boomerang champion from the western Japanese metropolis of Osaka. Doi later underwent training from the world champion on how to throw it, media reports said.
Advanced Life Sciences Announces Successful Thorough QT Study Of ...
Advanced Life Sciences Holdings, Inc. (Nasdaq: ADLS), announced positive results from Trial CL07-001, a thorough QT study of the Company's novel once-a-day oral antibiotic, cethromycin. This study was conducted to evaluate the cardiac safety of cethromycin and to enhance the safety database for the Company's upcoming New Drug Application (NDA) submission for cethromycin to treat community acquired pneumonia (CAP). The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) requires thorough QT studies for all new chemical entities because prolongation in QT interval (corrected for changes in heart rate, or QTc) may signify an increased risk of developing cardiac arrhythmias. Trial CL07-001 evaluated the potential of cethromycin to cause a prolongation in electrocardiographic QT interval in accordance with FDA and ICH E14 guidance.
