State leaders desert us

SEVEN ministers and one premier will be leaving the state in the hands of their colleagues over the holiday season with many of the junior ministers taking on multiple portfolios.

The workload being handed over is indicative of the massive experience gap in cabinet.

Troubled Health Minister Reba Meagher, still recovering from the Royal North Shore Hospital crisis, has notably been given no extra portfolios duties.

While health is considered a hefty responsibility, Ms Meagher is a senior minister and in comparison another ministry elder, Attorney-General John Hatzistergos was allocated Frank Sartor's planning duties during his break.

Community Minister Kevin Greene was also snubbed in the interim shuffle and handed no extra responsibilities.

Thomas Charged In 17 Home Burglaries

Chattanooga Police have arrested a man in connection with 17 residential burglaries that occurred in the Chattanooga area.

Police said Steven Thomas, 27, was out on bond and on probation for previous burglary charges when he carried out other break-ins.

Thomas was arrested Thursday by Investigator Mike Early and Phil Grubb of the Property Crimes Investigation Unit after police said he confessed to other burglaries that he committed.

According to the investigators, a residential burglary was reported on 5th Avenue. The victim told the investigator that her digital camera and other electronics had been taken. The victim provided the serial numbers for her belongings, and the investigator contacted a local pawn shop and determined some of the belongings had been pawned within an hour of the burglary.

Fine Living: Designing to indulge all five senses

That's the question interior designer Alexandra Ray asks her Marin clients and it's the same one she posed to her London clients before she relocated her design firm, Five Senses Interiors, here two years ago.

Since then, she's paired up with a French-born fashion insider, Patricia Blanc, and expanded the business from interiors and fine arts consulting to hotel branding and custom gift boxes.

"We're just two Europeans who clicked and we're excited to shake things up here so that people can have more fun," Ray says. "It's a lot more fun in London. Design is innovative and eclectic and people are really living with art, creatively; they're not afraid to put personality into their homes."

Marin residents, she believes, "are very smart but very traditional and tend to follow a trend or pattern" when decorating." Instead, she thinks, clients are more satisfied when they identify their sensual needs and create a home that caters to them.
