Your Turn: Budget 2008
I have been following Canadian politics a very long time and this has got to be the worst government Canada has ever had. Thank god they are in a minority position and can be held in check. Hopefully the Liberals are going to solve their leadership problem...are you listening Micheal. 2500 cops and all this spending on the military...it's starting to feel like an eastern bloc country around here. By the way! Like every Neo-Con government from the past the tab for all this will eventually come. .
Students, Alums Pay Respects At NIU
DEKALB, Ill. -- In DeKalb, Ill., mourners have been standing in the rain, staring at five white crosses on a small hill before placing flowers in the snow in front of each one. The visitors held markers for long minutes in front of 16-foot-long remembrance boards crammed with messages, adding their own words. And a few kneeled in front of crime scene tape strung outside a Northern Illinois University lecture hall where a young man gunned down five students before turning the gun on himself. .
Special prosecutor to probe actions of Elgin cop after New Year's ...
A special prosecutor has been appointed to investigate whether an off-duty Elgin police officer committed a crime after a New Year's Eve brawl at an Elgin hotel, authorities said Friday. Officer Chris Darr was assigned to desk duty after the incident at the Holiday Inn in which his father, former Elgin Police Chief Jack Darr, was seriously hurt and nine people were arrested. Chris Darr has not been charged with any wrongdoing, but the Illinois appellate prosecutor's office will investigate the incident to avoid a potential conflict with Kane County prosecutors, State's Attorney John Barsanti said. Because Kane County prosecutors work with Elgin police on a daily basis, Barsanti said he asked the department to seek another agency to investigate Chris Darr's actions. "Some of the witnesses are officers, and we have relationships with some of these guys," Barsanti said.
